Ugh! – exclamatory expression generally describing shocked
disgust. But often exposing the prejudices of the exclaimer.
‘Ugh! What does she look like?’
‘That smell is disgusting. Ugh! I don’t know how you can
live so close to the sewage works.’
Q: ‘Socks with sandals? Ugh! Have you no fashion sense?’
A: ‘Actually, I find the combination keeps my feet at just
the right temperature, and, frankly, I couldn’t care less about the opinion of
someone so clearly ruled by irrational prejudice.’
