Karma: noun - in Buddhism & Hinduism, the total of someone’s actions, considered to determine that person's future states of existence; in Jainism, the subtle physical matter binding the soul as a result of bad acts; fate or destiny following as effect from cause.

Deepika knelt in prayer before the altar to one of her many gods, pleading for mercy in the expectation that her karma would return her to life as a cockroach after her death.’
