Writing: 1100 Words Only Today

A day at the office, so not a lot of time to write. It would have been dance class, but the teacher is on holiday in Morocco for a couple of weeks, so an extra night to write. Had a new Author Interview to deal with; this one will be especially great to read, so watch out for 21 July.
Once at the keyboard, managed to turn out 1,100 words before the energy started to drop. But the epic fantasy continues to grow and go well. Sorting out a new danger for one of my protagonists tonight; will he or won't he overcome this particular barrier?
That's it for tonight, though.

The picture shows a lane in the area, known by the locals as 'Mucky Duck' but I've no idea why.

Writing - Not Today

Regulars will know I rarely write on a Monday, due to longer hours at work and an evening spent at dance classes with my wife. And many will be aware I've been suffering CFS for over 7 years. Unfortunately, this condition, which never completely disappears, has returned this week due to a combination of slight over-exertion and some stress- causing incidents. As a result, I left work early today, so I could take the only action that has any positive effect in these circumstances; i.e. rest.
So, no writing tonight. I've dealt with my emails and followed-up on the author interview from yesterday, as I commit to this with every author interview I present.  But, for now, the only option is more rest. Perhaps tomorrow might permit some actual writing. I shall have to wait and see.
In the meantime, here's another local picture to please, inspire or inform.

And the Edit Goes On

Orange Fringe FlareImage by catface3 via FlickrNothing done yesterday, as I had a long day at work; most of it with my ear glued to the phone, answering questions about rates bills. Also, our dance class in the evening, when we were put through the basics of, amongst others, the Viennese Waltz; not recommended for those who suffer from any form of dizziness.
This evening, I wanted to write and post the review of The Alchemist (see below). So, having dealt with the 69 emails awaiting my return from work, I thought the rest of my time would be better spent doing the typing corrections to the MS for the first book. Managed to complete 4 more chapters of that and now time for rest in preparation for tomorrow at the office and then an evening in Hornsea with my writing group.
Still, 4 chapters of corrections was a worthwhile contribution, I think.

The Edit Moves On

GUANGZHOU, CHINA - NOVEMBER 13: Thitiyapa Poti...Image by Getty Images via @daylifeAnother chapter done, and chapter 50, page 477 now awaits perusal. And still all goes well.
I've written and scheduled another three blog posts this evening, following the day at work. My emails are all more or less dealt with, and a small amount of essential admin work completed. A pleasant walk after the evening meal worked off some of those calories and allowed quality time with my long-suffering wife. And I even managed to catch the news whilst drinking the after meal cuppa.
Last night's dance class went well and we enjoyed our waltzes, foxtrots, tango, salsa, samba, rumba, quickstep and jive, returning home feeling just a little tired but spiritually refreshed.
So, tomorrow is the writing group night, of course. More on Thursday. For now, a glass of red and a spot of relaxation before bed, I think.

Further Progress with the Edit

Dancers Vernon and Irene Castle. Gelatin silve...Image via WikipediaChapter 26 complete. 27 and page249 await. I wish I'd done more, but other things must be done. And I've prepared blog posts for the coming week, when I'll be away for a couple of days, as my daughter has an interview at a university down south. Another writer invited me to interview on his blog and I've prepared my answers to his questions. There's a new group on Facebook  dealing with the distortion of language and altered meanings of words. I've joined that (you might like to as well - the link is highlighted for you) and made a few comments during the day.
Tomorrow I work and then indulge in a ballroom dance class with my wife in the evening, so I doubt I'll get much done then. It could be Thursday before I have another chance at this edit, which is going well and feeding my desire to get the next part of the story written.

Dancing through the query letter

The phenakistoscope – a couple waltzingImage via Wikipedia
OK, so not entirely true. But I've been to my weekly dance class with my lovely wife tonight and come back knackered. Fox Trot, Quickstep, Waltz, Passa Doble, Tango, Jive and Samba. Great fun.
As for the query letter; well, I think I have some thing worth trying now. I'll have to see what my mentors, colleagues, critics and friends at the writing group have to say. They're a pretty astute bunch with a good deal of experience between them, so I tend to take note of what they say. I had the good fortune to come across a really good sample of a query letter, one which actually caught the attention of a literary agent and caused the book to be published. Check out http://allielarkin.blogspot.com/2010/06/yikes-my-first-book-event-and-whole-lot.html for a look at the book in question.  And check out the query letter here: http://www.guidetoliteraryagents.com/blog/Successful%20Queries%20Agent%20Rebecca%20Strauss%20And%20Stay%20By%20Allie%20Larkin.aspx
